Description

Old-fashioned Amish Sugar Cookies that are soft, sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Made with simple ingredients and no rolling required, these cookies are perfect for any occasion or everyday snacking.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Extra sugar for sprinkling (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Sprinkle tops with sugar if desired.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are set but not browned. Cool on sheet for 1 minute, then transfer to racks.

Notes

  • Do not overbake — they should be pale with set edges.
  • Use room temp butter and eggs for best results.
  • Store in airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
