These Apple Butter Thumbprint Cookies are soft, buttery, and filled with rich, spiced apple butter. Perfect for fall baking, they’re quick to make and bring cozy flavor to every bite.

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/3 cup apple butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and vanilla extract and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until dough forms.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet. Press thumb or spoon into center to make a well.
- Fill each well with apple butter. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden.
- Cool on pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack. Optionally add more apple butter after baking.
Notes
- Use a cookie scoop for even sizes.
- Chill dough briefly if too soft for shaping.
- Try different fruit butters for variety.
