Description

A cozy, spiced apple syrup made from fresh apples, brown sugar, and warm spices, perfect for pancakes, waffles, and beyond.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large fresh apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 to 4 whole cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Set your saucepan over medium heat and prepare all ingredients.
  2. Combine chopped apples, water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, nutmeg, and salt in the saucepan. Stir well.
  3. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  4. Simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and vanilla extract. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  6. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pressing solids to extract as much liquid as possible.
  7. Transfer to a jar or bottle and serve warm or cooled.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor.
  • For a thicker syrup, simmer longer without a lid.
  • Let the syrup cool before storing to avoid condensation.
  • Double the batch and freeze in portions for future use.
