Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 packet Instant Yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup Milk (warmed)
- ¼ cup Butter (melted)
Fillings
- 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 2–3 Fresh Jalapeños (diced)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir to mix evenly. Then, warm the milk and melted butter until just warm, and add to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough starts to form.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a cloth. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Add the Fillings: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and diced jalapeños over the surface. Cut the dough into squares and stack them on top of each other in a greased loaf pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the loaf pan with a cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes until puffy and touching the sides of the pan.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. Remove from the oven and brush with additional melted butter if desired.
Notes
- Don’t Skip the Rise: Allow sufficient time for both rises; this ensures a light and airy bread.
- Use Fresh Jalapeños: Fresh peppers have more flavor than pickled or canned options, enhancing the overall dish.
- Check for Doneness: Bread should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom; this is a key indicator it’s ready.
- Experiment with Cheeses: Different types of cheese can offer unique flavors; don’t hesitate to switch it up!
- Let it Cool: Allow the bread to cool slightly before pulling it apart to avoid hot cheese burns.
