- 200g fresh prawns, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 large egg
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Assembly & Coating
- 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
- Toasted sesame seeds, for coating edges
For Frying
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil), enough for deep frying
Optional Garnishes and Serving
- Slider buns or small rolls (optional)
- Fresh lettuce leaves (optional)
- Spicy mayo or hoisin sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Prawn Mixture: Finely chop the prawns and combine them in a bowl with minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until you have a sticky, flavorful filling that will hold well on the bread.
- Assemble the Toast: Cut the sandwich bread slices into small squares or rectangles suitable for sliders. Spread an even layer of the prawn mixture onto each piece, pressing gently to cover the surface fully.
- Coat with Sesame Seeds: Gently press the edges of each prawn-covered bread piece into a shallow plate of toasted sesame seeds, ensuring the seeds stick to the perimeter to create a crunchy crust when fried.
- Fry to Perfection: Heat oil in a deep pan to medium-high temperature. Carefully fry the sesame-coated prawn toasts in batches until they turn golden brown on both sides. Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Assemble the Sliders: Optionally, place the fried prawn toasts onto slider buns or small rolls. Add fresh lettuce or a spread of spicy mayo for added flavor and contrast. Serve immediately to enjoy maximum crispness.
Notes
- Prep ingredients ahead to save time during assembly.
- Use fresh prawns over frozen for best texture and flavor.
- Remove crusts and lightly press bread to avoid sogginess after frying.
- Maintain medium-high oil temperature to prevent greasy toasts.
- Serve immediately for optimal crispiness and freshness.
- Store leftover sliders in an airtight container with a paper towel and keep the lid slightly open to avoid sogginess.
- Reheat fried toasts in an oven or air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes instead of using a microwave.
