Ingredients
Scale
Meatball Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 1 lb Ground Pork
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1 finely chopped Onion
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
Sauce Ingredients
- 2 cups Beef Broth
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined but do not overwork the meat.
- Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, about one inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brown the Meatballs: In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, browning them on all sides. Remove and set aside once browned.
- Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, add beef broth and scrape up any brown bits from the bottom. Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer until slightly thickened.
- Combine Meatballs and Sauce: Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the sauce. Cover and let them simmer for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Notes
- Don’t Overmix: Mix the meat gently to keep the meatballs tender.
- Chill the Mixture: If time allows, refrigerate the meat mixture for 30 minutes before forming meatballs for easier handling.
- Use a Cookie Scoop: For uniform meatballs, use a cookie scoop to ensure they are all the same size.
- Add Fresh Herbs: Incorporate fresh parsley or dill for added flavor and a pop of color.
- Monitor Cooking Time: Avoid overcooking the meatballs to prevent them from becoming dry.
