Description

A comforting oven-baked dish made with seasoned minced beef, tender potato layers, and a light creamy sauce that comes together into a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g minced beef
  • 700 g potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 250 ml milk
  • 30 g butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Heat a frying pan over medium heat and cook the minced beef with the onion and garlic until browned. Season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Lightly grease a baking dish.
  4. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish, then add a layer of the cooked mince. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. In a small pan, melt the butter, stir in the flour, then slowly whisk in the milk until smooth.
  6. Pour the sauce evenly over the layered dish.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
  • Allow the bake to rest before serving so the layers set properly.
  • Tastes even better the next day as leftovers.
