Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 whole garlic bulb
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (for roasting garlic)
Optional Garnishes
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Fresh chives, chopped
- Smoked paprika (for dusting)
Instructions
- Roast the Garlic: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the top off the whole garlic bulb to expose the cloves, drizzle with olive oil, wrap it tightly in foil, and roast for 35-40 minutes until the cloves are golden, soft, and fragrant. Allow it to cool slightly before squeezing the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins.
- Combine Creamy Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth and fully blended, creating a rich and silky base for the dip.
- Add Roasted Garlic and Lemon: Fold in the roasted garlic cloves, mashing them gently to evenly distribute their flavor throughout the creamy mix. Stir in freshly squeezed lemon juice, salt, and black pepper to taste, adjusting seasoning as needed.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the dip and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld perfectly. Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside your favorite chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.
Notes
- Roast garlic gently to bring out its sweet, mellow flavor without bitterness.
- Use fresh garlic bulbs for superior flavor compared to pre-peeled cloves.
- Adjust dip thickness by adding milk or buttermilk one tablespoon at a time, if desired.
- Season gradually and taste often to achieve perfect balance of salt, pepper, and acidity.
- For a smoother texture, briefly pulse all ingredients in a food processor.
- The dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Freezing is possible but may slightly alter texture; thaw overnight in the fridge before use.
- Serve garnished with fresh herbs or smoked paprika to enhance flavor and presentation.
