Description

A rich and creamy onion dip made with real caramelized onions, cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise for deep savory flavor and a smooth, scoopable texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Set a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Add the butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the sliced onions and kosher salt.
  4. Cook the onions, stirring often, for 25 to 30 minutes until soft and deeply golden brown.
  5. Let the onions cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Fold the cooled onions into the creamy mixture until evenly combined.
  7. Taste and adjust with more salt or pepper if needed.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl, cover, and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Let the onions cool before mixing so the dip stays thick and creamy.
  • For the best flavor, make the dip a few hours ahead or the day before serving.
  • Serve with potato chips, crackers, toasted bread, or fresh vegetables.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
