Description
A rich and creamy onion dip made with real caramelized onions, cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise for deep savory flavor and a smooth, scoopable texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Set a large skillet over medium-low heat.
- In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth. Set aside.
- Add the butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the sliced onions and kosher salt.
- Cook the onions, stirring often, for 25 to 30 minutes until soft and deeply golden brown.
- Let the onions cool for about 10 minutes.
- Fold the cooled onions into the creamy mixture until evenly combined.
- Taste and adjust with more salt or pepper if needed.
- Transfer to a serving bowl, cover, and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Let the onions cool before mixing so the dip stays thick and creamy.
- For the best flavor, make the dip a few hours ahead or the day before serving.
- Serve with potato chips, crackers, toasted bread, or fresh vegetables.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
